In my computer design experience, I have used 3D Illustration and animation to demonstrate a number of different things.  It can be a lot of fun, but time consuming.  I have nearly modeled my entire Lustron Home in virtual 3D, and hope to finish it all to show here. To do this, I used a neat piece of software called "trueSpace".

I have literally built the home myself in 3D, and have made many mistakes along the way.  It has been a "work-in-progress" for over 6 years on and off, and is nearly finished, complete with furnishings.
